WeBuildAlaska is a comprehensive effort to inspire and motivate new people to join the construction industry in Alaska. Our primary goal is to create a bridge to connect potential construction workers with apprenticeship and training programs, providing them with the resources and information they need to get started. With the help of AGC of Alaska, the CIPF Fund and its efforts to create the WeBuildAlaska campaign – everyone has the opportunity to make a career in the Alaska Construction industry.
Mission & Vision
WeBuildAlaska is a collaborative campaign made possible by Associated General Contractors of Alaska (AGC) and the Construction Industry Progress Fund (CIPF).
WeBuildAlaska is an initiative that aims to motivate and engage the next generation of Alaska’s construction workers. It seeks to eliminate false beliefs and make people, especially the younger generation and their mentors, more aware of the career possibilities in the construction industry, as well as provide access to local training programs, resources and information.
AGC Of Alaska
Advocate, Educate & Promote.
AGC of Alaska is committed to advocating for our members, educating them on industry trends and topics, and promoting their top-quality work. We produce multiple publications, television and social media advertisements, and encourage members to participate in community events. Additionally, we always encourage members to get to know and use other members within the AGC network. Our goal is to ensure that our members’ voices are heard throughout the state on important issues that affect the construction industry. In summary, our mission is to Advocate, Educate, and Promote our members and the Alaskan construction industry.
The Need for WeBuildAlaska
Employers Need Help Finding Qualified, Trained Workers
Today 70% of college students graduate with student loans, averaging about $37,000 and dismal job prospects in their desired field. Despite increased media attention about on-going labor shortages and other workforce development efforts, young people simply aren’t considering (let alone pursuing) careers in the trades. According to AGC of America, 80% of contractors “report difficulty finding qualified craft workers to hire as [the] association calls for measures to rebuild workforce.”
WeBuildAlaska plans to Engage with Alaskans
So, where’s the disconnect? The problem lies in people’s perception of the industry. We have to change hearts and minds – WeBuildAlaska aims to redefine our industry; we have to re-educate Alaskans, and invest in our own legacy so that future generations aspire to be tradespeople and contributing members to the Alaska Construction Industry. WeBuildAlaska’s pioneering approach utilizes a mix of marketing, advertising, public relations, and grassroots outreach tactics in order to actively engage with Alaskans of all ages about the lucrative, long-term, and immediate benefits of careers in the state’s construction industry.
The Alaska construction industry plays an important role in the state’s economy. It provides jobs and economic growth, while also creating infrastructure and housing. However, the industry faces many challenges that could limit its potential. These challenges may include inadequate funding, limited resources, or a lack of access to resources.
The Alaska Construction Industry Promotion Fund (CIPF) works to promote and support the construction industry in Alaska. This includes working to educate the public about the positive impacts the industry has on the state, such as providing employment opportunities and generating economic growth. The CIPF also identifies and presents solutions to any issues that may be preventing the construction industry from achieving its full potential. The CIPF supports the construction industry by advocating for increased funding, improving access to resources, and working with industry stakeholders to find solutions that ensure the industry can provide for the people of Alaska. The CIPF also works to connect industry professionals with each other, providing networking opportunities and resources for businesses to grow and succeed. Ultimately, the CIPF strives to create a prosperous and sustainable construction industry in Alaska.
