Painters, Glaziers, Tapers & Floor Coverers

Job Description

Painters apply paints and prepare surfaces for painting. Preparation is the most important part of painting and all sorts of surfaces, including wood, metal, masonry, and sheet rock must be prepared. Painters also apply other types of wall coverings besides paint, such as vinyl, fabric, and aluminum. Traffic control painters paint striping on roads.

Glaziers prepare and install various types of glass, mirrors, windows, and aluminum doors. Construction glaziers cut, fit, and install plate glass windows, mirrors, and specialty glass items in commercial and residential buildings. Some glass workers specialize in the fabrication, assembly, and installation of glass framing systems for storefronts including doors, architectural panels, and sealants. Hand and power tools are used.

Tapers seal joints between plasterboard or other wallboards, mix sealing compound, press paper tape over joints to embed tape into compound and seal joints, or tape joints using mechanical applicators that spread compound and embed tape in one operation.

Floor Coverers lay floor coverings in both residential and commercial sites. This can involve removing old flooring, preparing and measuring the floor area, and installing padding beneath carpeting. Installers then position the carpet and use staples or glue to secure the carpet to a snug fit.
